Training in the Michael Chekhov Acting Technique begins with classes that are designed for the actor new to the Chekhov Technique and continues with classes for those actors seeking to gain mastery as they take it into their acting life.Eva Gil (MFA ’12) Eva received a FOET Grant to attend the Professional training program at the American Shakespeare Center where she took classes for three weeks in voice, rhetoric, text analysis, stage combat, Elizabethan dance, scene study, ensemble work, and original rehearsal practices all focusing on the Shakespeare canon. “As soon as we begin to develop our bodies, voices, and emotions, we begin to get our professional actor’s technique, and as soon as we have our technique, we can start the creative process - and what will it be?” - Michael Chekhov. In this exploration of the art of the actor, we find ever new goals for our acting as we discover more of our expressive selves. Through Chekhov’s effective tools for characterization, we are able to inhabit the imaginary characters we play with truth and spontaneous freedom.
